This is a good story. It's well written and edited although I thought there were occasional weak spots.I was surprised to find myself enjoying a "clean" romance, which I normally avoid if I'm warned. The hero and heroine are normal people who are physically attracted to each other and have sex (before marriage), but the reader isn't in the room with them. I noticed the difference, but I didn't feel as if I was missing anything because I often skim through those passages anyway.

An engrossing book, historical romance. I finished it in a couple of evenings. The heroine is intelligent, beautiful (naturally), and running for her life. The hero is handsome, a sweetheart, and suffering. Suspenseful details are revealed throughout, making the entire book a journey of sensual mystery and angst for the reader.
Laura bring her characters to life and you fall in love as they do. She also spins such hateful villains! I just adored Bella's strength and determination. Alex is such a good man, who has suffered. Together...perfect.
This third book in the Ransomed Jewels series is outstanding. I truly enjoyed the relationship between Belle and Alex. Belle was able to help Alex overcome the nightmares that came from his kidnapping experience. In return, Alex saved Belle from her evil father and a horrific marriage to a murderer duke. Their love was a strong and sweet one
This by far my favorite of the Ransom Jewels book's. The first two were good but the women bothered me. Isobel was strong but she wasn't stubborn or a pushover. She wasn't some simmpering, go along with everything fool, but she also wasn't the I have to do things my way no matter what anyone else says and will be cold and argumentative to any man type either.
I loved Alex. I loved the progression their romance took. A little disappointed that there wasn't a love scene like there were in the first two books.
This one makes a little more sense if you've read the previous titles in the series. Alex was earlier introduced as a younger brother being held for ransom. Other characters from previous volumes also carry through to this one. Alex's treatment during captivity forms the basis for the nightmares that plague him in this story. Lady Isobelle becomes his love interest when she tries to escape marriage to a sadistic brute seeking advancement in Society through the union. How these two interact and work to solve each other's problems makes for an enjoyable addition to the series.
The third in an interesting series with each book a little weaker as the series progresses. I enjoyed this story but the beginning was slow and the ending flawed. The situations set up to resolve the drama were choppy, underdeveloped, or left the reader shouting, "No, that's not a good idea. Don't do that!!" But the author seemed to feel she needed to force plot situations unrealistically in order to achieve her desired the ending. For instance, why does one couple need to spend a dangerous week traveling to Scotland to wed when all they needed was a special license? Why does Alex rush off alone? Etc, etc, etc. Too many of those jarring incidences. Kind of lost me because if them. Why have smart people doing dumb things again and again? Awkward. I prefer smart, courageous people achieving victory by being smart and courageous. Belle was fabulous, smart, and courageous. The rest seemed off.
Ok story but not great.
A very clean romance. Georgette Heyer clean without Heyer's well delineated characters, careful plot, sparkling dialogue. I know this book is free but better to spend some $$ on a better book. Surely your time is worth something.
Dark Ruby starts well enough if a little predictably; tortured hero; heroine running from trouble. They find each other, fall in love and set out to cure the heroine's problems; an abusive father who wants to marry her for his own gain to a man who has beaten two wives to death. The hero and his two brothers begin to unravel Father and Bride Groom's sordid pasts and to acquire evidence against them when our heroine does something that defies logic. The resolution to the plot seems hurried and far to easy as the two villains were described as being too ruthless and clever to be defeated so easily. This book was an easy enough read until the unbelievable, hurried and disappointing denouement.
