The Prophecy of Arcadia Arcadian Wars Volume 1 M H Soars 9781496114426 Books

The premise of the book is solid. The main character is the last to know she is part of a prophecy and all her protectors are sworn to secrecy. The book follows the basic YA guideline of teenager finding herself and subsequently falling in love.

With emergent and growing powers from the characters in the book, the plot does take some twists and turns that keep the reader engaged. The writer does enough to leave the reader wanting to read more at the end of the book and thus perfectly primed for book 2 in the series.

The parts I didn't like centered around the continued dance between two of the characters who are in love but denying it for one reason or another. After a while I felt like the angst between them was too contrived and I lost interest in seeing them together.

Overall, I would recommend this book but caution on the basic adolescent sexual undertones that might offend the parents of some teenage readers.

The Prophecy of Arcadia Arcadian Wars Volume 1 M H Soars 9781496114426 Books Reviews

The Prophecy of Arcadia is the first book in the Arcadian Wars series. It follows the lives of 6 teen aliens that are stranded on Earth with the mission to protect two youngsters from Earth. Over 100 years ago, their planet, Arcadia, was invaded by a mysterious race and nearly destroyed. Depleted of their resources the Arcadians turned to Earth to find something that could help them defeat their enemy. They found a Prophecy that stated that a boy and a girl from Earth were the key to their salvation. So they sent their most gifted children to act as protectors.

What I liked the most about this book is that it's very character driven. It's told from 3 different points of view, which is very unusual and hard to do properly. But it works here without being confusing. And the points of view are very distinct.

Even if the two points of view are of aliens, they are very easy to relate to. Samantha is a very likeable heroine. Strong but also flawed which makes her that much stronger as a character. No one likes to read about a too perfect heroine and unfortunately there are way too many of them in the YA genre. In a sense, Samantha reminds me a bit of Buffy. She can kick ass but at the same time wishes she could live a normal teen life. She suffers from love woes like everyone else and a lot of times her relationship problems get in the way of her mission.

Matthew is the other alien point of view. He might sound like a stereotyped, brooding, sensitive hero, but he acts like a real guy. He doesn't act like the perfect hero, always being the perfect boyfriend. He messes up, he gets jealous and that's ok (I'm sorry, but only Edward would not get pissed at Bella for kissing Jacob. That was total BS).

The third point of view in the book is of Alexia. She's human and part of the Prophecy. She looks up to Samantha and wishes she could be a little bit more like her. Alexia is more insecure and doesn't like to be the center of attention. But that doesn't mean she is your typical doormat heroine. Her relationship with Ethan is very sweet and will appease the romantics out there. I like that so far, all the main characters seem to be layered and complex.

The plot was also very good. There was enough mystery and action to keep the story moving. I don't want to write too much about it so not to take away the fun.

Overall, it was a solid start of a new series. I want to move to La Maison Falafel!
I liked the storyline and am looking foward to see what happens next. I just don't know what to think of Alexia. She starts off acting mature for her age but then somewhere along the way she just devolved. I don't know if has something to do with meeting Ethan but I did not lot care for how her character progressed. I did like the other characters in the book. the progression between Sam and Matt was nice to see but with how the book ends, I want to know what happened between them when they were 10. I think there is more to Julian than what meets the eye. I also wish the book explained more what the Prophecy is and what Alexia and Ethan's roles play into it. I hope the next book shows a better progression with the characters.
There's lots going on in The Prophecy of Arcadia, teen drama - and sci-fi drama - romance, forbidden love, special abilities, hidden enemies and lots and lots of secrets.

Prophecy is a unique read - told in three POVs. Samantha is smart and sassy and stubborn. Matt is protective and conflicted and a bit broody. Alexia has a good heart, is loyal and kind. There's also lots of other characters, the rest of the 'cousins' and friends and Arcadians but they all manage to retain their individuality.

There's lots of secrets, between the 'family', from Alexia, from them all. And from us; I'm dying to know what the 'big thing' that happened in the past is. I definitely want to know more, about Arcadia, about their abilities, about the Prophecy and what happens next.
